Creating a Culture of Inclusion, Excellence, and Support

At Co-op Academy Leeds, we’re proud of our commitment to building a fairer, kinder society through education. From achieving recognition in mental health initiatives to fostering inclusivity for underserved communities, everything we do reflects our cooperative values. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

GTRSB into Higher Education Pledge

We’ve taken the National Pledge to create an environment where Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showman, and Boater (GRTSB) students can thrive. For these communities, access to higher education is more than academic—it’s about social justice and opportunity. By breaking down barriers, we’re helping these young people gain the qualifications they need for brighter futures.

We also support staff who self-identify as GRTSB, offering pathways for their personal and professional development. Together, we’re fostering understanding, equality, and progress.

School Mental Health Award

Mental health matters—because happy students and staff are the foundation of success. That’s why we’re delighted to have earned the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools ‘School Mental Health Award’ at Bronze status.

This award isn’t just a badge; it’s a framework we use to make mental health a strategic priority. With evidence-based approaches, we’re creating emotionally healthy environments where everyone can thrive.

Schools of Sanctuary

In a world where kindness matters more than ever, we’re proud to be part of the Schools of Sanctuary network. This initiative supports over 1,200 schools in creating spaces where those seeking safety feel welcome.

Our schools are at the heart of this movement, helping young people and families rebuild their lives with dignity. We’re here to raise awareness, inspire change, and build a culture of understanding and belonging.

LGBTQ+ Inclusion and Beyond

We believe in a world where everyone can be themselves—always. Partnering with the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University, we’ve embraced their groundbreaking Quality Mark for LGBTQ+ inclusion. This research-informed framework helps us assess and enhance our support for students and staff, ensuring we’re meeting everyone’s needs.

Inclusion isn’t just a goal; it’s part of who we are.

Why It Matters

Education is about more than classrooms—it’s about creating opportunities, nurturing confidence, and making sure every child has the chance to shine. At Co-op Academies Trust, we’re working every day to make that happen.
