A community iftar event was successfully organised at the school by Miss Mahmood, Mr Ali, and Mrs Smail, bringing together around 150 students, family members, and local community members. The evening was filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, celebrating unity and togetherness during Ramadan. Students played an active role in the event, delivering beautiful performances such as Quran recitation, which added a meaningful and spiritual touch to the gathering. In addition to sharing a meal, the event also focused on giving back, with funds being raised to support humanitarian efforts in Palestine. Overall, the iftar was a memorable occasion that strengthened community bonds and highlighted the values of compassion and generosity.

You can find an audio version of this letter here www.leeds.coopacademies.co.uk/latest-updates/audio

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’re pleased to share an important update about uniforms. New national legislation, introduced through the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, requires schools to reduce branded items and lower costs. We fully support this, and wanted to let you know as soon as possible that changes are coming to our uniforms which will be in place by September 2026.

In this new policy we are reducing branded items across our Trust, and your new uniform will be as follows:

Our New Uniform

Academy Uniform

Black Academy Logo V-Neck Jumper

Academy Tie

Traditional white shirt with a collar

Plain black tailored trousers

Plain black shoes

If you wear a headscarf or headband, it must also be plain black

PE Uniform

Black Academy logo PE Multi-top

Black Academy logo PE T-Shirt

Plain black tracksuit bottoms or plain black shorts

Trainers

What does this mean for you?

Any items no longer in the new uniform policy do not need to be replaced before September 2026 if your child wears them out or outgrows them in this time. We expect all children to adhere to the new policy from September 2026.

As part of Co-op Academies Trust, we are working together to have a single supplier across all schools, this supplier will hopefully be in place by September 2027. The goal of this project is to further reduce costs for our families. We will be in touch with details when we have them.

Trousers

We are introducing a single school uniform for all students in our Secondary Schools. This means that all students will wear trousers at school. This has been informed by research showing that traditional, uniform options, particularly skirts and dresses, can limit pupils’ comfort, confidence, and participation in school life (Dr Mairead Ryan, 2024; Dr Alice Porter, 2025). More practical options, such as trousers, support active learning and are better suited to the full range of school activities, including practical subjects like science, construction, and engineering, as well as everyday movement around the school.

We are also mindful that items such as pinafores and tights can increase costs for families due to frequent replacement (The Children’s Society, 2023). As a trust committed to equality and inclusion, we believe a more flexible uniform could help ensure all students feel comfortable and able to fully engage in school life. We value your feedback and invite you to share your views in the upcoming Edurio survey.

Please ensure your child is wearing plain black tailored trousers from September 2026, sports or stretch fabric will not be acceptable for any child under the new uniform policy. Find further details on your academy website.

Specific guidance will be on your academy’s website by the Easter Holidays. Please reference this.

Many Thanks

Co-op Academies Trust

We hope this message finds you well and that you had a restful break over the holiday season. A very happy New Year from all the staff here; we are delighted to welcome our students back for what promises to be a busy and productive spring term.

We are writing to inform you that the Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and Year 11) Parents’ Evening has been scheduled for Thursday, January 15th, from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Please note that students will finish their school day at the normal time of 3:05 pm.

This evening is an invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress directly with their subject teachers, review their current attainment, and plan next steps. This is particularly vital as Year 11 students approach their final exams and Year 10 students strengthen their subject understanding.

We kindly ask that your child books appointments with their subject teachers in the coming days.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Yours sincerely,

This means that every time Co-op Members buy selected Co-op products and services, 1% of what they spend goes towards local community causes, and your votes can help our school receive a larger share!

About Our Project

Our project aims to increase the community's access and longevity to receiving nutritious foods and ingredients that people can cook with to feed their families for years to come. This funding could help us partner with food wastage and distribution organisations to allow us to access more culturally appropriate and healthier foods to help feed families.

The more people who choose our school as their cause, the more funding we’ll receive to make this happen. There’s £6,000 available to share between the three local causes — and every vote counts!

Stay Involved

The Co-op App goes live with all the local causes from Sunday 19th October. You’ll be able to see our school listed and start supporting us straight away.

Don’t forget to tag @coopuk and @Co-op Academy Leeds when sharing online to spread the word!

Thank you for your support - together we can make a real difference in our school and local community.

Dear Parent / Carer,

We will be making our school a phone-free space to improve teaching and learning using a system called Yondr. Yondr has been implemented in thousands of schools across 35 countries to facilitate an engaged learning environment and we are confident Yondr will have a positive impact here as well.

We believe that phones have great utility. We have also found that learning and social behavior improve drastically when students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates.

The Yondr Program utilises a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone. Every student will secure their phone in a Yondr pouch when they arrive at school. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day and the pouches remain in school. Should students wish to have their own allocated pouch which they bring to / take home from school each day there will be a deposit payable and a contract drawn up between ourselves and parents who will be taking responsibility for maintaining the condition of the pouch. If you would like more details about this please contact me directly via the email address at the end of this email.

Yondr recently surveyed over 900 school partners to measure the effects of creating phone-free educational environments. These schools achieved notable progress in multiple areas:

65% of schools saw an improvement in academic performance

74% of schools saw an improvement in student behavior

83% of schools saw an improvement in student engagement in the classroom

86% of schools saw a positive impact on student safety and wellness

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly by email, or attend one of our upcoming meeting about the adoption of Yondr - Thursday 11th September - 4pm

If there is an emergency and you would like to get in contact with your child, please call main reception and your call will be directed to the appropriate member of staff - 0113 3807940 or email the school at - leed-info@coopacademies.co.uk

In an effort to best serve your child, we appreciate your full support in adoption of the Yondr Program at our school.

What if I want to reach my child during the school day?

We want our students to be engaged in their learning. If you need to contact your child during the school day, contact the main office at 0113 3807940.

What if there is a school emergency?

In case of a school emergency, we direct our students to safety first, following our school emergency preparedness protocol.

Will my student’s phone be safe?

Students are in possession of their phone - in their Yondr pouch - for the entire school day. We will advise students to store the pouch safely in their backpacks or blazer pockets.

What if the Yondr pouch gets damaged or a student is caught on their phone?

If a student damages their Pouch or is caught on their phone, we will collect the phone/Pouch and call home and the Parent will need to come to the school and pick up their child’s phone. A 30 minute detention will also be issued to the child.

Damaged pouches will be billed to parents at a cost of £25

Note: Damage consists of any signs that the physical integrity of the pouch has been compromised, whether intentional or unintentional, as determined by the school or Yondr staff.

How quick is the unlocking process?

The unlocking process is quick, and takes under a second per student. While students are still getting used to how to unlock pouches, staff will be on hand with mobile unlocking stations to stop queues forming in the first few weeks. If needed we will add extra unlocking points.

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you may already be aware, GCSE results day is Thursday 21 August 2025. All students are welcome to collect their results from school between 10am-11.30am in the Library. Students must enter and leave the Academy via the library gate.

We are confident that everyone’s hard work during Year 11 will have paid off. Many teachers and other professionals will be present to help celebrate with your young people as they look forward to the next stage in their education and the world of work. Please be assured, however, that we will also have in attendance Miss Wheatley, our careers advisor, who will be available to support any students with post-16 questions, along with a few colleges.

If someone is collecting your results on your behalf you need to complete the form on the back of this letter here and they need to bring it with them on the day. Please ensure they bring written permission from you and their own photographic identification, for example a driving licence or passport. Please note that if your nominated person comes and does not have this letter, they will not be permitted to collect your results.

Results not collected will be posted to your home address on Thursday 21 August. If you believe the home address we hold for you may not be correct, please contact the academy as a matter of urgency.

As an Academy we celebrate achievements and successes, and this may involve publishing photographs of students with their results on social media. No student names will be shown or shared. If you do not want your child’s photo and results to be shared on social media, please can you put this in writing and send this in to school for the attention of the Examinations Officer.

Finally, to all those parents and carers whose children will be leaving the Academy, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support shown to the school throughout their time with us. We wish your child every success for the future.

Best Wishes,

Taking the time to understand us has meant that we all feel safer in school and valued; school feels like home.

We have now been able to take this work beyond the school gates, for example Elisei and I, along with other Roma students for school presented to over 200 NHS workers about social inclusion and how we can all work together to break down barriers. Undoubtedly this work has reduced exclusions amongst this group of students and has increased our happiness immeasurably in school.

At Hornsea, they measured groynes to investigate coastal erosion and protection methods.

Later, at Selwicks Bay, Flamborough Head, they were treated to breathtaking views of a cave and a towering stack, while spotting seals swimming in the waters nearby. The trip provided a fantastic hands-on learning experience, deepening their understanding of coastal processes and marine life.

Eco Conference

In May six enthusiastic Year 7 students from Co-op Academy Leeds had the exciting opportunity to attend the annual Co-op Academies Eco Conference, held at Angel Square. Throughout the day, students also took part in engaging workshops led by sustainability experts. Highlights included interactive sessions by fairandfunky, which empowered students to see themselves as changemakers in the global effort against climate change. Hands-on activities, such as designing bird feeders and insect hotels, allowed them to channel their creativity into practical projects that will soon enhance our academy’s eco garden.

As part of the trip, students also had the opportunity to present at a conference about how their academy is working towards greater sustainability. The conference not only broadened their understanding of environmental issues but also provided valuable insight into the projects and initiatives undertaken by other academies in the Trust. The experience has further ignited their enthusiasm, and we are excited to see how their inspiration will shape the future growth of our Eco Club at Co-op Academy Leeds.

As we reach the end of this halved term, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and determination shown by our Year 11 students during what is undoubtedly a challenging and important period of their school journey.

Over the last few weeks, students have approached their GCSE exams with maturity. We are incredibly proud of the way they have conducted themselves, and I would like to thank you for the vital support you continue to provide at home.

Half Term Revision

Although the half-term break offers a much needed chance to rest and recharge, we strongly encourage all students to maintain a healthy balance between rest and revision. This is a crucial time in the exam seasons, and continued structured preparation will make a significant difference in the final outcomes. Students should revisit topics already assessed, considerate knowledge for upcoming papers and make the use of the revision resources and guidance provided by their teachers.

The timetable for the revision sessions is attached to this letter. We encourage all students to attend the sessions relevant to their subjects to make the most of this valuable opportunity.

Punctuality is critical.

Arriving late can cause significant stress for students and may, in some cases, prevent them from being allowed to sit the exam. It also disrupts other candidates and undermines the calm and focused environment necessary for exam success. We kindly ask that all students arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure they are fully prepared and settled. Students need to sign in with Miss Young at 8:15am

Uniform

Wearing the correct school uniform during exams is equally important. It maintains a sense of normality and school identity, reinforces expectations, and helps staff quickly identify students on the premises. Full uniform is a requirement throughout the exam season, and any issues with this should be addressed in advance with the school.

Eid

We are aware that some GCSE exams may fall on or near the dates of Eid celebrations this year, and we want to acknowledge the significance of this important religious occasion for many of our students and families.

However, we must also stress that GCSE exams are nationally timetabled and cannot be rescheduled for individual students. These exams are a vital part of a young person's academic journey and can significantly influence their future education and career opportunities. Missing an exam will result in a mark of zero for that paper.

We understand the desire to celebrate with family, and we are committed to supporting students in balancing their religious and academic commitments. When Eid falls on an exam day, we kindly ask that students attend their scheduled exam in full uniform. Once the exams are complete we will allow students to leave the school site to celebrate Eid.

Attendance

Year 11 attendance has been really good so far this exam season. Particularly on days where Core Subject exams have been at 9am, we have been really proud to see Year 11 students arriving bright and early. We would like to remind parents that students should be arriving before 8.25am to make the most of morning Booster sessions.

Dear Parent/Carer

We are coming to your child’s school in 10th June 2025 to vaccinate the YEAR 8 pupils against HPV.

HPV, or the ‘Human Papillomavirus’ is a common virus that is spread through skin contact. The virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life, such as cervical cancer and some cancers of the mouth, throat, anal and genital areas. The evidence is clear that the HPV vaccine protects girls and boys from these HPV-related cancers.

How to give consent.

To go to the website, click on the following link, this will take you to the online HPV vaccination Intent form https://bit.ly/3cmRlkr

Or access the online consent form by typing the following address into your internet browser: https://www.leedsimmunisations.co.uk/Forms/HPV_p1

Enter the unique school code for your child’s school. The code for Co-op Academy Leeds is EE137065 (please ensure you enter all letters and numbers).

Important: If you do not wish your child to receive the vaccinations, you are still required to complete the “refusal section” on the form so that we understand your wishes. If we do not receive a consent or refusal form, your child will be given an opportunity to consent for themselves on the day after being assessed by a nurse as Gillick competent to do so.

Providing you enter a correct email address, you will receive an email confirmation when your child has received their vaccination, which will include information and advice about common reactions your child may experience.

For further information about the HPV vaccination including side effects, go to the www.gov.uk website and search “immunisations for young people” or click here

Recently we worked with your school to ‘Poverty Proof the School Day’. Part of the process is to measure the impact that this is having on the school day and an important part of this is to gather family’s perspectives and experiences.

We are therefore asking parents and carers to complete the following online survey. In it you will be asked about the changes that have been made to your own family’s experience of the school and your child’s school day as a result of the Poverty Proofing audit.

To complete the survey, please follow this link:

https://children-ne.org.uk/poverty-proofing/survey?uac=f81a8cca-7486-4cd6-b36a-eb72c7ffc110

We would be grateful if you could submit your responses within two weeks of receiving this. All responses are anonymous and you do not have to give your name.

Please contact the school if you have any difficulties accessing the survey via the internet. They will be able to provide you with a paper version of the survey.

Year 8 have been making the most of the opportunities available this half term, with students involved in ‘Into University’, a project aimed at increasing awareness of future destinations. Year 9 have been awarded over 3550 praise points this half term for demonstrating exemplary behaviour - well done! Additionally, over 4000 pieces of home learning were completed by the year group, well done! A reminder that there is home learning due everyday, and the timetable can be found here: www.leeds.coopacademies.co.uk/homelearning.

Attendance

A huge well done to the 19 students who have had 100% attendance half term. A reminder that students need to aim for at least 95% attendance. An attendance of 90% means 117 missed lessons per year, and attendance of 80% means 234 missed lessons per year.

Uniform and equipment

A reminder that all students should be wearing a Co-op Academy Leeds branded blazer or v-neck jumper; please ensure your child has one of these items to wear. Additionally, on PE days, students need to wear Co-op Academy Leeds branded PE kit - plain black is not an appropriate substitute for this. Uniform items are available from the Jo Brand Uniform shop.

All students must be equipped with a pencil case containing black pens, red pens, pencils, and a ruler. These items are available to purchase from the academy for a discounted price.

We are incredibly proud of their dedication and resilience, and we appreciate the role you play in encouraging and guiding them through this important stage.

Attendance

Year 10 has had some positive weeks for attendance, but there is a long way to go. Please remember that we do not authorise days off school for ‘minor childhood ailments’ such as stomach ache, headaches or coughs and colds. Please encourage your child to come into school every day to build resilience. Year 10 attendance so far this Spring Term is lower than the Autumn Term, so we look forward to seeing Year 10 students in school, on time, every day after the Half-Term break.

Academy return

Co-op Academy Leeds reopens on Monday 24th February at 08.15 am. We are looking forward to welcoming your child back into the academy to start another half term of learning!

Arbor app

To access your child’s behaviour log, download the Arbor Parent app using the QR codes. With this, you can see attendance information, praise points, and behaviour points.

As we approach the holidays, I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the term gone by and to share some important updates and information with you. This term has been a busy and productive one for Year 11 students, who are continuing to make great strides in their academic and personal development.

Attendance

Year 11 attendance has taken a dip over the past few weeks. There has been a lot of illness and many students with excellent attendance have had to take days off school for the first time this year. We hope to return in February, fully rested and recovered, ready to be in school - on time, every day.

We return on Monday 24th and a full uniform is expected. Please use half term to check your child's uniform to avoid unnecessary disruption to their learning.

After the half term break our Year 11 students will undertake their second set of mock GCSE examinations.

Please find the timetable for these exams below:

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As you are aware, Year 11 is an important year for your child with their GCSE exams. To prepare them for this, we will be sitting a set of mock examinations when we return from the February half term.

The timetable for the February mock exams is below. In some cases, break and lunch times will be adjusted to fit in longer exams - your child will still be able to have their breaks and get something to eat in these times. Breakfast club is also available to every student free of charge from 8am - 8.15am, meaning they can have something to eat before each exam.

It is important that students thoroughly prepare for these exams, as the predicted grades that these create will be used to apply to college and for further study. They should be starting to plan their revision for these exams - further support will be given in tutor time and from their subject teachers. Exams will be conducted under full exam regulations to give a proper experience of exam sitting.

In addition, there are regular revision sessions running in school. These offer a great opportunity to get subject specific support in the run up to the mock exam, and it is really important that your child attends as many of these sessions as they can. There are some students for whom attendance is compulsory for some subjects, and they should go to these sessions as a priority. The timetable for these revision sessions is also below.

The library is also open to Year 11 students every break and lunch, and after school until 4pm, to provide a quiet space to study. Students should be revising and working in a quiet place free from distractions and giving themselves regular breaks to make sure their revision is useful.

Yours sincerely,

Miss S Walker

As we approach Week 4 of the new half-term, I wanted to share some important updates to support your child as they prepare for the vital months ahead in Year 11.

February Mock Examinations

The February mocks are fast approaching, and these will play a crucial role in preparing students for their final GCSE examinations. It is essential that students are consistently revising, attending all lessons, and making the most of the resources and support available to them. The library is open every evening until 4:30 pm where students can complete independent study.

Afterschool Revision Sessions

We are committed to providing comprehensive support for Year 11 students. A structured revision programme is in place every afternoon after school.
Compulsory Period 7 Lessons

All Year 11 students who have been allocated compulsory Period 7 lessons must attend these sessions. These lessons are a vital opportunity for students to receive additional support in specific subject areas to help them achieve their full potential.

Attendance at these sessions is mandatory, and we cannot stress enough their importance in preparing for the upcoming exams. Students who fail to attend without a valid reason will face sanctions, including a two-hour detention for truancy.

The Importance of Attendance

Year 11 attendance is being closely monitored in the run-up to the Summer exams. It is critical that students are attending school everyday in order to reach their full potential in their exams. School starts at 8.25am, with some students attending earlier revision sessions. Year 11 must be in school on time to access their Tutor group session. Every day of absence is 6 lessons lost - this missed learning time could mean the difference between achieving target grades, or not. Over the next few weeks, Miss Fox and Miss Young will be sending letters home and visiting the homes of students whose attendance is of concern. Please contact the Attendance Improvement Team if you would like any further support with your child’s attendance.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your child’s education. Together, we can help them succeed and reach their full potential.

Best wishes.
